Slate & Loom — Accessibility Statement
Effective date: [September 2, 2025]
Reviewed: [September 2, 2025] · Next review by: [March 2, 2026]
Slate & Loom is committed to providing a website and online shopping experience that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We strive to follow recognized best practices and applicable Canadian accessibility laws.
Our accessibility standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities, and more user-friendly for everyone.
What we’re doing
We design, build, and test slateandloom.ca with accessibility in mind:
Structure & semantics: Proper use of headings, landmarks, lists, labels, and WAI-ARIA where appropriate.
Keyboard access: All primary functionality is intended to be usable with a keyboard, with visible focus states.
Contrast & color: Text and interactive elements target at least AA contrast; we don’t rely on color alone to convey meaning.
Media: Product videos (when used) include captions; key motion is decorative or can be reduced when the user prefers reduced motion.
Images: Informative images and product photography include alt text; decorative images are marked accordingly.
Forms & errors: Clear labels, instructions, and error identification/ suggestions.
Responsive design: Pages reflow on mobile and zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
Assistive tech testing: Periodic checks with screen readers (e.g., NVDA, VoiceOver) and standard browsers.
Known limitations (being improved)
While we work toward full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, you may encounter:
Third-party content or widgets (e.g., embedded reviews, maps, or social media) not fully under our control.
Legacy PDFs or marketing assets that may not be fully tagged.
Occasional focus order or live region issues after theme/app updates.
If you run into a barrier, please tell us—see Feedback & support below.
Feedback & support
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Slate & Loom.
Email: [accessibility@slateandloom.ca]
Response time: We aim to acknowledge all accessibility inquiries within 2 business days and provide a substantive response or timeline within 10 business days.
Requesting alternative formats or communication support
On request, we will provide information on our website and in our customer communications in accessible formats or with communication supports (e.g., large print, plain-language summaries, transcripts, caption files), at no additional charge and within a reasonable time.
To request an alternate format, contact accessibility@slateandloom.ca with:
The webpage/URL or document name, and
Your preferred format or communication support.
Compatibility, technology & browsers
Slate & Loom is designed to work with:
The two most recent versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox),
Current mobile OS browsers (iOS, Android), and
Assistive technologies that follow modern standards.
The site relies on HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. Blocking scripts or styles may affect accessibility.
Third-party platforms & apps
Some accessibility features depend on our e-commerce platform and integrations (e.g., checkout, payment, analytics, review widgets). We assess these vendors for accessibility and encourage them to meet or exceed WCAG 2.2 AA. Where full conformance isn’t possible, we aim to provide equivalent alternatives.
Ongoing governance
Training: Relevant team members receive training on accessible design and content authoring.
Testing cadence: Self-audits during major releases and at least annual reviews; targeted third-party audits as needed.
Content standards: Internal checklists for alt text, link text, headings, forms, and media.
Change control: Accessibility checks are part of theme/app update procedures.
Applicable laws (Canada)
We work to align with Canada’s Accessible Canada Act and applicable provincial frameworks (e.g., AODA in Ontario, Accessible BC Act, Accessibility for Manitobans Act, Nova Scotia Accessibility Act) as they relate to websites and customer communications.
Escalation
If you believe your accessibility request has not been resolved, please ask to escalate to our Accessibility Lead at accessibility@slateandloom.ca. You may also contact your provincial/territorial human rights commission for further assistance.
